SABSA Revision 2019


These topics were revised at the 2019 Revision Session at the AGM held on 12 June 2019.
To get the most out of this revision, score each question on a scoresheet.
Provide the relevant rule for each question. The Rules provided in the answers are from "Rule 10" since most scorers have access to older books.
Remember that the current Rules are in "Rule 9" -- but use the same indicators as the older Rules . i.e. Rule 10.4(a)(3) is currently Rule 9.4(a)(3)

1. Value of a hit.
Runner on 1st. Fly ball hit to right field, runner holds up thinking the ball will be caught but it falls safely. Runner is out at 2nd. 9-6. Score the play.

2. Value of a hit.
Runner on 1st. Ball hit to right field. Batter/runner is safe at 1st. Runner attempts to get 2 bases on the hit but is tagged out, 9-6-5. Score the play.

3. Value of a hit.
Runner on 1st. Ball hit to right field. Batter/runner is safe at 1st. Runner advances 2 bases on the hit. The fielding team throws the ball 9-6-4 and appeals that the runner missed 2nd base. Runner is given out. Score the play.

4. Sac bunt.
None out. Runner on 1st. Ball bunted down 3rd base line. Fielded by catcher. Catcher could easily make the out at 1st but chooses to attempt to get the lead runner out. With no errors, the runner is safe on 2nd. Score the play.

5. Double play.
None out. Runner on 1st. Ball hit to 2nd baseman who flips the ball to the shortstop for an out. Shortstop then throws the ball to the 1st baseman. The ball is wide and drags the 1st baseman off the base. Runner out at 2nd, batter/runner safe at 1st base. Score the play.

6. Double play.
None out. Runner on 1st. Ball hit to 2nd baseman who flips the ball to the shortstop for an out. Shortstop then throws the ball to the 1st baseman. The throw would have reached the base before the batter/runner but the ball is wide and gets past the 1st baseman. The batter/runner advances to 2nd base on the wild throw. Score the play.

7. Double play.
None out. Runner on 1st. Ball hit to 2nd baseman who flips the ball to the shortstop for an out. Shortstop then throws the ball to the 1st baseman who drops a catchable ball. Score the play. GDP?

None out. Runners on 1st and 3rd. Ball hit to 2nd baseman who flips the ball to the shortstop for an out. Shortstop then throws the ball to the 1st baseman who catches the ball. Batter is out. Runner at 3rd scores. Score the play.
